I created this invitation and event suite for Brooklyn Historical Society for their 2019 Library Dinner Gala, and they asked that I incorporate the leafy imagery in my layouts. The deliverables included invitation, vellum insert, reply card, mailing and reply envelopes, 6-page event program, table numbers, and menus.
My inspiration for the typography was the Crystal Palace, an all-glass Victorian exhibition hall built in London for the Great Exhibition, so I chose a swash-caps font that felt elegant but still had a modern feel. I paired these with accents of gold decorative ornaments, which I used sparingly to evoke Victorian cast-iron gates and echo the swashes of the title font without being overly distracting. A classic serif font for the body text compliment the other typography but is easy to read in smaller sizes.
